3rd ID celebrates newest general

Col. David Hamilton, the 3rd Infantry Division deputy commander for support, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general during a ceremony at Marne Gardens April 21.

Leaders and Soldiers looked on as Family Members proudly replaced the rank-embroidered shoulder straps on Hamilton’s Army Service Uniform jacket and dress shirt shoulder boards with the assistance of 3rd ID Commander Maj. Gen. Jim Rainey.

Hamilton was presented a general officer model M9 pistol and belt, and unfurled the gold-fringed scarlet general officer flag displaying a single white star.

Cannoneers from Battery A, 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery Regiment, Division Artillery fired a presentation of honors with M119A3 howitzers.

Hamilton arrived to 3rd ID as the deputy commander for support in May 2016.
