Independence Day Briefs

Come enjoy all of the Independence Day events and activities Stewart Hunter have planned for you! It all starts Tuesday with a golf tournament at Fort Stewart followed by the Independence Day celebration at Hunter with a 3rd Infantry Division band concert and fireworks that evening.  Wednesday the 3rd ID kicks off the Stewart celebration with a division run, followed by a free Soldier and Family Day picnic at Newman Field and ending with the Marne Independence Day concert and fireworks show at Donovan Field.  All of the details are below!


Red, White and Blue golf tournament

Start celebrating Independence Day early – with birdies and eagles. The Red, White and Blue Taylors Creek Golf Tournament will get under way at noon Tuesday. Public’s welcome to play, too! The cost of $35 per player includes cart, greens fees and range balls. Register today! For more information, call 767-2370. 


Hunter road closure for fireworks 

North Lightning at the Intersection of Stephen Douglas Road will be closed from 11 a.m. to set up for the fireworks through the show at approximately 10 p.m.  Gate 39 E (Truscott Terminal) and gate 3 (Flight Operations) are the only gates to be used for official traffic to enter or exit during the road closure.  Motorists are ask to avoid the area and make plans accordingly. Independence Day at Hunter

Hunter Army Airfield will celebrate Independence Day and the 100th anniversary of the 3rd ID with music and fireworks Tuesday from 8-10 p.m. The celebration is free and will be held at Family Day Field (corner of Stephen Douglas Street and Hickam Boulevard). No pets permitted. 3rd ID Rock Band will play from 8:15 p.m. until 9:20 p.m. The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. Please note: on Wednesday, July 4, in celebration of Independence Day, the Hunter Outdoor Pool will be open eoyj no charge. 


Free Soldier and family picnic

For Active Duty military and families only, Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Newman Field. Fun-filled activities include a petting zoo, yard games, bounce houses, face painting, fishing games, photo booths, dunking booth, shaved ice and bubbles! Plus, free use of Corkan Pool, Stewart Bowling and Corkan Recreation, including mini golf. Members of the Hinesville Military Affairs Committee will serve food during the picnic portion of the celebration, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Sponsored by Liberty Chrysler, First Command, AFBN, Smile Doctors and Veterans United (no federal endorsement implied).


Community welcome to concert, fireworks

Invite your friends and neighbors as we proudly celebrate Independence Day and the 100th anniversary of the 3ID Wednesday with a free concert, open to the public, and a fireworks display. The concert at Donovan Field will feature live entertainment from the smash hit rock band 3 Doors Down, country duo LOCASH and R&B group Jagged Edge. Post open gate access starting at 3   p.m. at Gates 2 and 3. No identification is required to enter the post at these gates for this event. (Vehicles are subject to random search upon entering the installation. People and their items are subject to search before entering the concert grounds.) Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Concert gates open at 5:30 p.m. 

The show starts at 7 p.m. Before the music starts, enjoy the rock wall, quad-jumper, lawn Connect 4 and checkers and cornhole. Celebration safety

Please remember to drink plenty of water. Apply sunscreen and don’t forget the bug spray! If you need help, call Emergency Services at 866-586-3116, or call 911. Emergency medical personnel will be on hand at the concert site. Concert-goers are asked not to bring pets, although verified service dogs will be allowed. Strollers are permitted. Prohibited items: bottles/cans, umbrellas, video, cameras, frisbees, weapons, knives, any other dangerous instruments, fireworks, explosives, banner poles, large signs and/or banners.
