Once again, during the month of October, we acknowledge breast cancer awareness. Many are effected by breast cancer around the world. Breast cancer is not just limited to women - men can develop it too, and rarely children as well. There are many activities you can join and participate in that are able to inform you about not only breast cancer, but other forms of cancers as well.

Most have heard the slogan, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"… What if we took that slogan and highly personalized it? Meaning, what if we believed one of our primary purposes in life was to serve those around us in an effort to help them become that which they are destined to be? Have you ever thought about what that would like in the context of your marriage, your friendships, your job, your community?

We're in the middle of hurricane season and we've already had hurricanes and tropical storms headed our way since the beginning. Hurricanes may not seem as such a big deal to some, but this natural disaster can do that, cause disaster. You have to be prepared for times like this because you never know what may or may not happen.

Christianity has Jewish roots. Jesus did not come to institute a religion, per se, but a way to have a sure and right relationship with God. Jesus was Jewish and celebrated Jewish traditions.

There have been frequent recalls of food lately. It's best to start learning what is healthy and what is not. For example, some of our favorite foods are not healthy and can lead to many illnesses, cancers, and diseases. Now, I'm not saying totally eliminate all your snacks and favorite meals, because it's okay to have them every now and then in moderation. A lot of fried foods aren't good, especially the kinds from fast food restaurants.

In January 2006 I was newly assigned to a Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, part of a then brand new Airborne Infantry Brigade in Alaska. What an amazing place and mission-where else can you see right in front of you a howitzer violently yanked out of a C-17 at forty degrees below zero over some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain on earth?

Being a good neighbor will never hurt anyone. There are good neighbors all over; however, in contrast, there are also inconsiderate neighbors. I hope you have a good neighbor to bragg on enough to celebrate "Good Neighbor Day" on Sept. 28.

"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2) a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; 3) a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4) a time to weep, and a time to laugh;a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5) a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to ...

Many of us teens wear uniforms to school every day. So, it may seem that accurately expressing ourselves is a hard thing to do because we wear the same thing just about every day.

An old African Proverb says, "Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors." I have never claimed to know much about sailing, although I am partial to the occasional Jimmy Buffett song, this proverb still resonates with me.

Peer pressure can take many forms. When we are under pressuring circumstances, we sometimes do things we know we shouldn't do. If we have to do certain things to impress our friends and in the back of your head you know you shouldn't! Don't fall tempted because nine times out of ten, you get in trouble, they won't have your back.

In 1882, Labor Day was birthed out of a desire for labor unions to shorten the work day from twelve to eight hours. In 1884, the first Monday in September was selected to observe Labor Day in the U.S. In 1894, in an effort to appease striking railroad workers, the U.S. government established Labor Day as a Federal holiday. In the 1950's, Labor Day was used as a day to lobby for safer working conditions, fair pay and benefits. With a declining workforce in the twentieth century, unification speeches have been replaced by advertisements to take an ...

I've talked about time management before, but as we progress along with the school year, it's good to reiterate and reinforce it. I'm not the best person when it comes to time management, but I'm definitely working on it. I have a lot on my plate this year. With me having a lot of homework, cheer practice, school and church activities, and working, time management is key for me to be successful.
