Take a Whitewater rafting trip
Shoot the rapids and feel the splash of the cool water and thrills of whitewater rafting on the Chattahoochee River July 8. It’s part of MWR Outdoor Recreation’s 2017 River Adventures Series and it’s open to all. The trip features classic river rapids, the ducky ride and a demo ride. Summer reading registration underway
Registration is under way for the Summer Reading Program 2017 at George P. Hays Library. The free reading program is for children in kindergarten through the 8th grade. Theme is “Reading by Design.” Participants will receive prizes as they reach reading milestones and the library will have several contests, with cool prizes, for participating readers based on STEM activities. Jaguar tickets on sale at Leisure Travel
Tickets for all pre-season and regular season Jacksonville Jaguars home games are now on sale at the Stewart-Hunter Leisure Travel offices. Ticket prices will vary according to the game. The Jaguars play their home games at EverBank Field in Jacksonville. They will open the 2017-2018 exhibition season in Jacksonville Aug. 17 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and regular season play at home Sept. 17 against the Tennessee Titans. Leisure Travel offers 7-day, 5-day cruises
Leisure Travel is offering two Eastern Caribbean cruise packages aboard the Carnival Ship Sunshine. Both cruises sail out of Port Canaveral, Fla. The choices:

Vie in Taylors Creek Club Championship
The Taylors Creek Club Championship will be played July 8 and 9 at par 72 Taylors Creek Golf Course on Fort Stewart. Champions will be crowned in the Men's Division, Women's Division, Senior Division (50 to 59) and Super Senior Division (60 and older). The tournament is open to the public. PGA Professional John Fesperman Jr. said all players will be given a tee time. The $75-per-player cost includes greens fee, cart fee, range balls, prizes and lunch on Sunday. ‘Welcome commanders’ at golf scramble
All are invited to the "Welcome All New Hunter Commanders’ Golf Scramble," hosted by Hunter’s garrison commander, beginning at 1 p.m. Friday at Hunter Golf Course. Scramble is a great opportunity to welcome the new commanders, for team building, for camaraderie and to get acquainted with the Hunter course. Cost is $35 for nonmembers, $30 for members. ‘Pete’s Dragon' Featured at Holbrook
"Pete’s Dragon," rated PG, will be shown Saturday as part of the Holbrook Pond “Movies Under the Stars” series. The movies are free and begin 15 minutes after sunset. Sign up for backpacks, school supplies
Online registration has begun for free backpacks and school supplies provided by Operation Homefront for children of active-duty E1-E6 service members. Families must pre-register at to receive a backpack. Supplies are limited, therefore it is on a first-registered, first-served basis. The backpacks and supplies will be given out during Community Activity Information Registration and Back to School Fairs July 25 at Newman Fitness Center on Stewart, and July 27 at Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter. Register for Hunter Youth Fall Soccer
Registration begins July 3 and continues until July 31 for Youth Sports fall soccer at Hunter Army Airfield. For ages 4-13. Participants develop skills, character while having fun, learning from a certified NYSCA coach. Games played at hunter Sports Complex, local YMCA and the Jewish Educational Alliance. Celebrate July 4 on Stewart-Hunter
The public is invited to join Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield military personnel and their Families in celebrating Independence Day. The Hunter celebration begins at 8:30 p.m. July 3 at Family Day Field. The event will include a salute to the nation and a performance by the 3rd ID band, followed by a fireworks display. Fort Stewart will have a Salute to the Nation ceremony starting at 8:30 p.m. July 4 at Cottrell Field. The 3rd ID band will play patriotic music prior to a 50-gun salute (one round for each of the 50 states) as a brief history of each state is given. Following the artillery salute, a fireworks display will light up the night sky and bring the celebration to a close. Grills, pets, glass bottles and weapons are strictly prohibited on Family Day Field at Hunter and on the Quick Track, Newman and Cottrell Field at Stewart. Corkan, Hunter pools open July 4th
The Corkan Outdoor Pool at Stewart and the Hunter Outdoor Pool will be open 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. July 4. The pools will be closed on July 6 instead of Tuesday, July 4.
Learn to bowl, get your own ball
The Eight for Eight Bowling League at Marne Bowling Center, building 402, is open to everyone who wants to learn how to bowl. Starting 10 a.m. until noon July 8, and continuing (for eight weeks) through Aug. 26, participants will bowl two games on Saturday mornings. Join BOSS Summer Splash
Enjoy a day at the pool without having to plan the food or fun. BOSS will have its Summer Splash event, with free food, pool games and prizes, 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. July 8 at Marne Point pool. Junior Golf Camp at Taylors Creek
Junior Golf Camp, consisting of five two-hour sessions in which students will learn all aspects of the game, will be conducted at Taylors Creek Golf Course from 10 a.m. to noon July 10-14 by PGA Professional John Fesperman. Boys and girls ages 7-17 are welcome. In addition to the fundamentals of golf, participants will learn about rules, respect, honesty and kindness. Some clubs will be provided, if needed. Sign up Youth Football, Cheer at Stewart
Registration is under way for youth football (ages 7-12) and cheer (ages 6-13) on Fort Stewart. Football sign-ups will be accepted until Aug. 15 or until all slots are filled. The cost for football is $65 per child. Cost for cheer is $40 per child. Sign-ups for youth soccer (ages 4-13) begin July 17 and accepted until all slots are filled.
