Your life matters

Chaplain Corner

In a world of moral and mortal relevance where we seem to be pitting everyone against everyone, we are found doing what millennia of humanity has done ... we are searching.

We are searching for significance.

We are searching for meaning.

We are searching for validation.

We are searching for someone, something to tell us that we matter. We all endeavor to matter.

Today, I am not going to get wrapped up in the political agenda of which life matters. I am not going to denounce any movement. I am not going to stump any political position. I am not going to wax eloquent on the moral decay of our society. I am not going to get on a soap box or spout off about my personal preference or my private convictions.

What I am going to do is tell you a truth that has stood the test of time.

I am going to share with you a hope for the here and now. I am going to tell you that, you matter!

That is right, you read that correctly. I want you to know today that you matter, and you matter the most to God. I want to, through the power of scripture show you that this is true.

There are 25 words that will give you cause to consider the depth of God’s love for you. These will be familiar words for most of you. They are the most memorized and quoted words in the entire Bible. There are many who do not believe in God yet they know these words. They are found in the Gospel of John, chapter 3 and verse 16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

God gave us his Son Jesus because you matter that much.

Jesus went to the cross for you and me because we matter that much. Jesus’ love for us was displayed and grace was bestowed upon each of us because we matter that much. It is through his death that ours was restrained and the hope of eternal life was gained. All this was done so that you would know that you matter the most to God.

I have no idea where you are at today. I do not know what your struggle is. I do not know what burden you bear. I do not know what sin you need to confess. I don’t know what pain you face each day. I do not know if you believe in Jesus or if you are still unsure.

What I do know is that you matter!  You matter the most to God.

He proved it when He gave His Son for you. He proved it when Jesus died for you. He proved it when He rose from the grave. He proved it when He ascended into heaven to prepare a place for you.

And He is proving it today.

H is speaking to you right now. He is that still small voice that you are battling right now. He is the peace for your pain. He is the answer to your question. He is the relief for your burden.

He is hope! He is strength! He is life! He is love! He is here!

So, my question for you today is: what are you going to do about it?

Will you accept the fact that you matter to God?
